Noldolante... by Hemhet Noldolante... by Hemhet
"Great was the sorrow of Eärendil and Elwing for the ruin of the havens of Sirion, and the captivity of their sons, and they feared that they would be slain; but it was not so. For Maglor took pity upon Elros and Elrond, and he cherished them, and love grew after between them, as little might be thought; but Maglor's heart was sick and weary with the burden of the dreadful oath."
(J.R.R. Tolkien "Silmarillion")

How did know Elros and Elrond the truth? Perhaps they accidentally heard the Noldolante.
On the wall some drawing from their childhood, and the lines on the jamb show, how much they grew during the years.

This is my entry for the Between the Lines contes. ([link])
2012.

That drawing is really beautiful.
You caught the atmosphere perfectly and the colours work wonderfully together.
I love the story of Maglor and the twins (unfortunatley it's only briefly mentioned...) and I was wondering how they found out about Maglors past.
I totally support your idea of them hearing the Noldolante.

Great work Clap

Thank you.
I wanted to show with the banner, that there were battles, where Maedhros and Maglor fought.
The coat-of-arms over the fireplace belongs to Feanor.

As always, I love your attention to detail. Not only the character's expressions but also their surroundings reveal so much of what's going on.

Thank you, I'm happy that you noticed the details.
It would be interesting sometime upload a drawing without description, and see how many can find out, what's going on ;)

wonderful, you captured the mood of quiet late evening same as many others evenings, when there is no reason to look forward to tomorrow, there is no reason or strength to do anything so you just let the time past by. You choose great colors and also your soft shading creates this melancholic mood.

There are not a lot of pictures of Elrond and Elros young. Very nice.
I like the melancholy mood as well.

This is wonderfull.
I absolutly love the room and the way, you put the elves (halfelves) in...
It must be diffricult... for all of them... growing somewhere knowing, the people taking care of you are not your relatives (or so losse, that is hardly counts) and rais children... you "gaind" through murdering and all...
and somehow you captured this...

I think Elrond and Elros had a happy childhood, but there was something untold sadness there.
Like this:
Justifieth their clothes and comforting them when they are sad. I ... I, who thought I will never do this. I sing a lullaby at evenings, the song that I would have sung to my children ...
Maglor, broke the silence and looked out of the window. In the garden a rope stretched between two trees with drying clothes on it. Between his heavy, dark-colored clothes waved little colorful shirts, as if they wanted to fly away with the light summer wind.

Wonderful picture! I love how the colors you used bring out the sorrow and the sad atmosphere in general. And the whole image is so detailed; the pics on the wall, the Feanorean banner, all of their clothes... and you even did Maedhros's shadow on the floor.
Amazing, bravo!:)

Lovely colours! :) The shading is really nice, too, giving it all a very smooth texture, fitting to the light from the fireplace. And its a thoughtprovoking scene. How did they know the truth? Your theory seems plausible.

Good luck with the contest!

I don't know what to love most - the scene itself, the colours you used, the sadness in it - or the maps and drawings on the wall. The ship of Eärendil? And the twins with their foster father(s)?

LOVE.

I like the twins best of all

But here's a misprint in the quote
"For Maglor took pity upon Elros and Elrond, and he cherished them, and love grew after between them, as little might be thought; but <<Maglor's>> Maedhros' heart was sick and weary with the burden of the dreadful oath."

I love the picture, and I don't know where to start with the positive criticism! The dark colors suit the setting perfectly, and I love all the emotion in the expressions and postures. The Feanorion banner across the fire place is lovely, and you pictured Maglor exactly as I imagine him, quite torn and depressed and sitting in a heap of his note-sheets. The cute paintings on the wall behind the twins are made by them, I guess, and lovely. And Maedhros looks so wistful, I wonder what he's thinking. Great, great artwork! I can't wait for more!!

Maglor had just finished the song. Elros and Elrond know only from now Maglor and Maedhros what did.Elrond is crying.
Maedhros is looking at the starry sky. Was it worth it to sacrifice so many lives and dreams? The red ink from the overturned ink bottle as blood flows through the text of the Noldolante.
